Although it will be a very narrow majority that was elected last night, this will be the most radical, right wing, regressive retrograde Republicans Congress we have ever seen. It will also be the last. The Republican majority just elected will not be long term, just like the GOP Congresses voters elected in 1994 and 2010 that were replaced, respectively, by Democratic Congressional majorities elected in the “Blue Wave” election years of 2006 and 2018. Unlike those GOP Congresses, this one will go so far in its extreme direction that the backlash from voters will be that much more pronounced, swift, and more long term than what we saw in the 2006 and 2018 midterm elections that swept those GOP Congressional majorities out of power. This will be so much so, that this will be the last time Republicans control Congress in our lifetimes once they lose this majority
.
It is almost certain that the new Republican Congress will move swiftly to impeach President Joe Biden. The degree to which this clearly partisan impeachment is ridiculous is highlighted by the fact that most Republicans don't even know what the reason will be for impeaching the president, they just know that they want to do it. This will be purely political retribution for the two impeachments of President Donald Trump in the American people will know this. This partisan impeachment of President Biden will be the least popular impeachment in the history of the country.
In addition to the impeachment of Biden, Republicans will pursue an impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland for simply investigating the crimes and corruption of Donald Trump, and they will also pursue a vicious witch hunt persecution of Anthony Fauci for his public health measures that were recommended during the covid pandemic. This witch hunt investigation will highlight the degree to which Republicans like Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and others believe in absolute lunatic conspiracies about the covid vaccines and the origins of the virus itself and a variety of other well outside of the mainstream ideas about these issues.
The new extreme Republican Congress will also pursue a variety of other witch hunt and retribution-minded investigations against the Biden Administration and other Democrats. Many of these will simply be retribution for what they believe are the grievances they have from being investigated by the January 6 committee for the coup attempt and insurrection that was incited by the former president.
When the new Republican Congress isn't pursuing these partisan investigations, they will be pursuing their extremely pro-corporate economic policy of more massive tax cuts for the rich and paying for these by enacting deep cuts in social programs and other spending. The MAGA Republican Congress will hold the entire economy hostage when the debate over raising the debt ceiling comes up in order to extract concessions from the body and administration on cutting programs like Social Security and Medicare and other domestic spending priorities. This may result in a government shutdown and we know how that went when the Republican Congress led by Newt Gingrich tried that during the Clinton administration. This will be a long line in many things that this Republican Congress will do that will be extremely unpopular with the American voters.
Aside from those measures, this Republican Congress will do nothing but obstruct anything else that the Biden Administration is trying to do. This will be the most obstructionist Republican Congress in the history of the country and as a result of this and those issues covered above, this will be the most unpopular Congress in many decades.
President Joe Biden will have no choice but to resort to the more populiost leaning more combative Biden that we have seen at times that has led to the popular #DarkBrandon memes on Twitter. Biden will will prepare to seek reelection in 2024, and much like Harry Truman in 1948, will run against the most unpopular do-nothing Republican Congress in the history of the country on his way to re-election against Donald Trump.
This unpopular MAGA Republican Congress will help lead the way to the complete eventual repudiation of the Trumpist MAGA direction of the Republican Party. As Liz Cheney has said about the dishonor remaining of those Republicans who stand with Donald Trump, she will be vindicated as more Republicans will disavow Trumpism and the MAGA Republican agenda over the next decade or so. The particularly toxic unpopularity of this Republican Congress and all of the partisan witch hunt investigations they will pursue, including the bitterly unpopular Biden impeachment, will lead to the downfall of not only the MAGA movement but could well condemn the Republican party to decades of being the minority party in the United States. In addition to this, the more left-leaning direction of the electorate as the Baby Boomers and the Generation X voters are dying off and more younger voters are joining the electorate, the general electorate of the United States is going to start and gradually moving toward the left and becoming more favorable devoting for Democrats.
The changing of the electorate will not be favorable to Republicans as the rightward extremism of the MAGA movement is not popular among younger voters. John Della Volpe, Polling Director of the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics, says among voters under 45, two thirds are voting for Democrats. The 2022 Harvard Youth Poll, released in late October, reports among 18-29 year old voters survey, 73 percent agree the rights of other Americans are under attack and 59 percent believe their own rights are under attack. By a 57 to 31 percent margin, with 12 percent undecided, these voter prefer Democrats to be on control of Congress.
We are told that voters tend to get more conservative as they get older and that might be generally true but not specifically true in this situation because the radical right-wing direction of the mega-oriented Republican party is not conservative, it is in fact quite radical. As many of the Millennials and Zoomers grow older the degree to which they become more conservative in general will not help the Republicans because the GOP is not going to be conservative they're going to be radical right wing. Any degree to which these voters begin to get a little bit more conservative as they get older my determine that they remain Democrats and support more moderate Democrats and primary races within the Democratic Party but I don't see this leading to a heavy shift toward the Republican party as these voters get older. Basically this tendency will not help Republicans because Republicans will have been too radical and too far right wing to take advantage of this
The deeply unpopular nature of the do-nothing Republican Congress that squandered its opportunity to govern by engaging in partisan witch hunt investigations instead of governing will be remembered in history both in the short-term and the long term. Voters for the foreseeable future will punish the Republican Party for this extreme right-wing direction. That is why this Republican Congress that got elected yesterday will probably be, once that majority is lost in one of the future elections, will be the last Republican majority that we will see in Congress for probably our lifetimes. The simple history of this will be that Republicans squandered their opportunity to become a long-term majority party because they chose to go to the extremes rather than be a responsible governing party with ideas and solutions for the problems that the country faces. Because they place party over country and not country over party, the majority of the American people will place country over party and elect Democrats in the foreseeable future.
