Why Biden continues to have low approval numbers
It's the economy stupid as James Carville would say
All the major polls show that President Joe Biden continues to have low ratings for his approval of his job as president. The most important factor in public approval of the president is performance on economic issues. And because most voters think the economic direction of this country is definitely going in the wrong direction, they continue to have negative approval of the performance of this president. And there are some reasons for this
.There is definitely a disconnect between what we hear about the economy and what we actually know about the economy. And most Americans, because they know how it affects their own situation on a day-to-day basis, know that this disconnect doesn't represent what they really say and experience economically. We are told by the mainstream media everyday how great the economy is doing, how low unemployment is, and how many new jobs the economy is creating. Yet most Americans know that whatever meager gains they have experienced in their increased wages and salaries over the past couple years, these gains have been more than eaten up by the high inflation that we've all been experiencing. While those at the top of the economy are doing better than ever in profiting more than they ever have, most Americans know that they are not doing as well as they have been doing even recently. Credit card debts and default rates have been skyrocketing and more Americans have also filed personal bankruptcies in the last couple years.
The American people have elected a Democratic president and and Democrats to control Congress in 2020, and for a short period of time after the pandemic, we saw the enacting of some Democratic policies. The covid relief plan that Congress and Biden passed gave some economic relief to the American people and we saw things like the very successful child tax credit that lifted tens of millions of American children out of poverty. But as the pandemic came to an end,Republicans and moderate Democrats sank this agenda and didn't renew any of it, and we went back to the same corporately beneficial policies that we've had for decades. As a result, regular Americans experience the shortfall in their own household budgets that came as a result of skyrocketing inflation and the discontinuing of the programs that were offered to them during the pandemic. What it means in reality is most American families are personally experiencing the effects of a recession while the those on the top are doing better than ever. This is because of the increased inequality of income and wealth that has been caused by the economic system currently in place.
While the American people voted for economic reform in the elections, they have not received much economic reform at all. As a result of this, the Democrats are struggling to sell their ideas to the American people because voters are not convinced that Democrats will actually enact real economic reforms. While we know that Republicans are definitely not going to enact them, the GOP appeals to voters with manufactured culture war issues on the far right to mask how incredibly unpopular their economic agenda is to the voters. This leaves voters dissatisfied with both parties, and in general unhappy with the direction the country is going in, at the same time. This sets up a chaotic political environment where anything could possibly happen in the 2020 for elections, including even bringing back the president who tried to overthrow the government after losing the 2020 election.
If this happens it would be because the Democrats had a chance to put through economic reforms that did not use their political power to do that. In the lack of real economic reform and the results that American families would experience from that is the real reason why president inviting continues to have low approval ratings, especially for the performance of this economy from most Americans. Until most Americans experience personally some degree of economic stability, we will continue to see these kinds of polls reflecting low low approval ratings of the president and a belief that the country is heading in the wrong direction. The only way to improve these numbers is to actually reform the economy and get the country headed in the right direction.
